WOMEN EMPOWERED® is a special self-defense program, based on thorough research of practical situations and aimed at maximizing the safety of women in dangerous situations.

The majority of modern self-defense programs fail to keep their assault scenarios realistic. We believe that an illusion of safety is dangerous.

Gracie University invested a tremendous amount of time and resources into deep research of real-life statistics. All 20 studied attacks are based on:

  • Law enforcement data on domestic violence and attacks on women;
  • Detailed descriptions of real assaults from the survivors.

Each technique was adjusted to counter a real-life threat — not vice versa.

Why Just 20 Attacks?

It’s practically impossible to come up with a unique defense move against every possible attack. Luckily, there’s no need to waste time on exotic and rare cases. We know what is most likely to be used.

At WOMEN EMPOWERED® Gracie Jiu-Jitsu® program you will learn how to defend yourself from 20 most common attacks, including:

  • Hair grabs;
  • Bear hugs;
  • Choke holds;
  • Wrist grabs;
  • Ground holds.

The main principles you will learn in WOMEN EMPOWERED® lessons will help you to identify and counter the threat immediately — even if the attack doesn’t look exactly like the one you studied.

We Keep it Realistic

Gracie Jiu-jitsu is the perfect self-defense system for women, but only if it is taught correctly. It can protect you from an opponent that is twice bigger than you and even from a weapon-bearing assailant.

We know that defending a more powerful opponent solely with strength and speed is unrealistic. To keep the lessons practical — we rely on the most powerful tools of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu® instead:

  • Leverage;
  • Timing;
  • Coordination and technique.

With our certified instructors, you can join WOMEN EMPOWERED® classes any time with no previous experience.

What to Expect

Part 1: Start with Practice

Upon enrolling, you will be given a special WOMEN EMPOWERED® attendance card to track your progress and see what awaits you in the future.

You need to attend 15 one-hour classes in any order, learning 20 WOMEN EMPOWERED® Gracie Jiu-Jitsu® techniques.

Part 2: Improve Your Reflexes

The next step in your training is Reflex Development (RD) class. There you will learn how to imply and combine 20 learned techniques to address the most common occurrences in a real self-defense situation. You gain access to this part when you complete each of the 15 WOMEN EMPOWERED® lessons.

Part 3: Earn the Pink Belt

The last step in the WOMEN EMPOWERED® program is passing a 25-minute test to assess your ability to execute the 20 essential techniques individually and in combination. If you pass the test — you’ll qualify for the promotion to the Pink Belt rank.

The WOMEN EMPOWERED® program is designed to maximize your safety in real-life dangerous scenarios. However, it still heavily relies on the core principles of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu®.

That’s why we added the unique Pink Belt to the GJJ ranking system: it’s a symbol of both your success within the WOMEN EMPOWERED® program AND of your developed skill in classic Gracie Jiu-Jitsu®.

WIth the Pink Belt you will be more than ready to move on to the Gracie COMBATIVES® program in case you choose to continue your development as a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu® practitioner.
